Studies were conducted to determine the relationship between the pretherapy characteristics of leukemia cells and their behaviour during culture in vitro. Leukemia cells which proliferated well in vitro also proliferated well in vivo. Cells which manifested myeloid or monocytic differentiation in vivo tended to manifest differentiation along these lines in vitro. Cells which manifested high levels of expression of c-fms, c-fes, or triose phosphate isomerase prior to culture were likely to differentiate in vitro, with high levels of c-fes expression being related to myeloid maturation. These observations suggest that differentiation at the molecular level prior to culture is a requisite for leukemia cell differentiation in vitro. The same may be true for differentiation in vivo under the influence of exogenously administered agents such as cytotoxic chemotherapy or recombinant growth factors.  相似文献

Pre‐ and post‐dispersal Helleborus foetidus (Ranunculaceae) seed predation by mice Apodemus sylvaticus as well as post‐dispersal seed removal by ants was studied, during two years, in six plant populations within three geographical regions (Caurel, Cazorla and Mágina) of the Iberian Peninsula. An observational approach revealed strong interregional differences in seed predation by mice during the pre‐dispersal phase, with high and similar rates of predation in Cazorla and Mágina and much lower rates in Caurel. There were also significant inter‐annual variations on pre‐dispersal seed predation by mice, while the existing habitat‐related differences (of lower magnitude) were not consistent across regions. Field experiments based on seed‐offering exclosures, showed that, despite some interregional variation, post‐dispersal seed removal by ants was consistently high through all spatial and temporal scales considered, with most seeds being removed within 48 h. Conversely, post‐dispersal seed predation by mice was highly variable among regions, being very high in Cazorla and minimal or absent in Caurel and Mágina. Interestingly, in Cazorla, in presence of mice, the number of seeds removed was rather independent of the presence/absence of ants, while under mice exclusion, it was determined by the presence/absence of ants. Conversely, in Caurel, the number of seeds removed by each remover agent (ants or mice) was independent of the presence/absence of the other agent. Thus, though uniquely in Cazorla, mice limited the number of seeds available to ants and, therefore, in this region could potentially have interfered on the development of seed traits that enable ants to efficiently harvest them. Our results support the notion that geographical variation over the Iberian Peninsula of mice seed predation may have promoted a mosaic of well‐matching and mismatching situations between H. foetidus diaspore traits and the characteristics of ant communities, which is consistent with some recent theories on the geographical structure of interactions.  相似文献

Effect of microwave treatment on the shear bond strength of different types of commercial teeth to acrylic resin Objective: The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of microwave treatment on the shear bond strength of commercial types of teeth to acrylic resin, when the glossy ridge laps were unmodified (groups 1 and 5), bur abraded (groups 2 and 6), bur grooved (groups 3 and 7) or etched by monomer (groups 4 and 8). Background: Controversial findings have shown that mechanical or chemical changes in ridge‐lap surface of the tooth increase or decrease the bond strength between tooth and acrylic resin, and the microwave disinfection may cause different changes on this bond strength. Materials and methods: Eighty specimens (n = 10) were made with the acrylic resin bonded to tooth glossy ridge lap, polymerised in water at 74°C for 9 h, and deflasked after flask cooling. Specimens of the groups 5, 6, 7 and 8 were individually immersed in 150 ml of water and submitted to microwave treatment in an oven at 650 W for 3 min. Control specimens (groups 1, 2, 3 and 4) were not microwave treated. Shear bond strength test was performed in an Instron machine with a cross‐speed of 1 mm/min. Collected data were submitted to anova and Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). Results: Microwave treatment decreased the shear bond strength values of the tooth/resin bond. In the microwaved and non‐microwaved procedures, mechanical retention improved the shear bond strength when compared with the control and monomer treatments. Conclusion: Shear bond strength of the tooth/resin bond was influenced by the microwave treatment and different commercial teeth association, and was lower for the Biotone tooth.  相似文献
